Description of the work
The objective of this CP is to test strategies, policies and supporting methodologies & tools in different environmental, political, legislative areas of Europe, in a certain number of regions within the partnerspartners' countries. Moreover, strategies and methodologies will be shared among the project partners. This Chapter of the project complements the findings of the two previous CPs of the project.
In fact, the specific aim of this CP is to test the strategies derived in CP2 and the methodologies/tools derived in the CP3 in selected regions. Finally, strategic actions and recommendations of best practices to promote mini hydro potential will be derived, based on the pass and on-going partnership countries experiences and focusing to RES European policy.
Outcome of this chapter:
The outcomes of the CP are the key-points learned from the five pilot actions as far as strategies and tools that lead to improve small hydro electricity production is concern. The lessons learned from the regional experiences will give valuable information for the application of such strategies to similar context in Europe.
Main outcomes are the following:
- Assessment of suitable methodologies and tools, based on the actions learned in the pilot regions, useful to define promising sites to implement small scale hydro electric plants in the territory and to disseminate opportunities among investors.

Assessment of strategies and good practices, which have been investigated in pilot regions of the partner countries.

Shared experiences among partners of countries with different environment, legislation and social context, which could be applied also in other similar contexts in Europe.
Deliverable(s) of this chapter:
- D4.1 - Report for each one of the pilot regions, presenting the (positive and negative) experiences of the strategies and tools used for each area, done by each partner of the CP;
- D4.2 - Publication “Strategic Actions learned from pilot regions” addressed to both potential investors and Public Administrations, summarising the findings in the five pilot regions, with respect to common strategies and methodologies that could be used as reference also in other European countries (CESI RICERCA copies will be distributed among partners for dissemination in their own countries and a digital copy will be also downloadable from the website); the publication will be realised taking into account the different needs and characteristics of the two target groups (public administrations and potential investors).
- D4.3 – Report and digital maps presenting the watercourses in the Region where it could be possible to install SHP plants, as part of the Investor Database of SHP potential sites and public cadastre (including copies for each partner), done by each partner, and concerning the following regions:
Cremona County (made by Provincia di Cremona),
Karlovac County (made by FSB Uz),
Trondheim County (made by NTNUs),
Attica Region (made by RSA),
Thaya County (made by EAW4);
- D 4.4 – Paper document explaining how make the correct feasibility analysis for the most technically, economically end environmental acceptable locations for building small hydro power plants, done by FSBUZ, in subcontracting with civil engineering experts;
- D 4.5 - Report containing the technical feasibility to use the old mills for power production, and report on a rank of the mills in terms of energy production, done by Cremona like subcontract with Polytechnic of Milan;
- D4.6 – Report containing the case study on the feasibility study and business plan to the installation of small hydroelectricity plants in Northern Attica, done by RSA like product of the subcontracting Kritias;
